Chrysalis Snail

Lauria cylindracea

Lauria cylindracea (Forsyth collection 03.062.4116). Scale bar = 1 mm.

One of the more common introduced snails in the Greater Victoria area, as well as in Vancouver, is Lauria cylindracea. This small snail, which can easily be overlooked due to its size, can be found in generally unkempt gardens and places where garden debris is dumped. Look for it under fallen leaves, on dead wood, under stones, bricks or other debris, and ivy. The shell shown above was found along the top of a rock wall, in a garden, in downtown Victoria, BC (48°25.25’N, 123°21.70’W).
