In this section are brief descriptions of projects that I'm working on or that interest me. Additionally, I have included a few links to some resources elsewhere on the web.
Parts of the current web site date from 2003, although there was similar content online earlier. There have been various incarnations of this site over the years, with this latest version going online in April 2009.
I am a graphic designer by trade but have been fascinated by the molluscs of British Columbia, Canada, since a very young age. Beginning around 1990, I have studied terrestrial molluscs of the province and more recently have almost exclusively focused on the terrestrial fauna.
While living in Victoria, I volunteered at the Royal BC Museum (beginning 1998) where I mostly identified and helped curate specimens. I later becoming a research associate and participated in field surveys with museum staff.
In 2004 my book, Land Snails of British Columbia, was published; the idea for the project was begun in 1994 or 1995 and was expedited by my association with the Royal BC Museum. A list of my other publications is available on this site.
I maintain comprehensive, but compact, reference collection of terrestrial molluscs, mostly from British Columbia, but also from other places. I'm always willing to share my data with those interested and most (but not always the latest) records are available online at efauna.bc.ca.. A substantial amount of additional material that I collected on museum-sponsored trips has been deposited in the Invertebrate Zoology Collection of the Royal BC Museum (RBCM). For data on these collections, contact the Museum.
I was a co-chair of the Molluscs Species Specialist Subcommittee of COSEWIC (Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada) from 2006 to 2010.
